About this role
Blue Origin is hiring a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead valve design work for New Glenn, the heavy-lift orbital rocket the company is flying from its Washington state operation.
The role leads the design, analysis, development, and qualification of next-generation components for the New Glenn Rocket, focused on critical systems including valves, regulators, accumulators, actuators, manifolds, mechanisms, pumps, and other mechanical devices essential to the vehicles and mission success. It oversees the complete lifecycle of component systems, from defining requirements and interfaces through conceptual and detailed design, development, assembly, verification, qualification testing, operation, manufacturing support, and post-flight serviceability, and performs sizing, material selection, and analyses (fluid flow, thermal, structural) to ensure performance under pressure, vibration, temperature, and mechanical loads.
Minimum qualifications: a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related field; 8+ years of proven experience designing fluid, mechanical, or electro-mechanical systems for aerospace or similar high-reliability applications; proficiency in 3D CAD software (Creo preferred) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools (ANSYS preferred); expertise in creating engineering drawings with GD&T per ASME Y14.5 standards; and knowledge of fluid or mechanical components such as valves, regulators, accumulators, mechanisms, or pumps. A master’s degree and experience with cryogenic fluids (e.g., hydrogen, oxygen, methane) are preferred.
Base Pay Range for: WA applicants is $145,188.00 – $203,263.20.
