Climate Change: Impacts on Arctic Ecosystems and Indigenous Communities

March 2 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

In the icy waters surrounding Greenland, humans rely on marine mammals like seals, whales and polar bears for subsistence. With climate change posing a growing threat to life around the globe, how will these marine mammals – and the indigenous communities who depend on them – fare? Join Dr. Kristin Laidre, a scientist at the University of Washington, as she discusses her nearly two decades worth of research into the biology and ecology of Greenland’s marine mammals. Learn why these species are important for indigenous communities and the expected impacts climate change on the ecosystem. The event begins with a reception where you’ll have access to food, beverages and a chance to mingle with the speaker before their talk (7 p.m.).
