Civic Participation Hackathon
October 19 @ 9:00 am - 6:00 pmFree
Ready to make a change in your community? Join Flatiron School, Crosscut and Citizen University as we contemplate how newcomers to Seattle can better engage in civic life.
Seattle is one of the fastest growing cities in the nation and as a result we have an influx of incoming residents from around the world. With over 15,000 newcomers moving to Seattle each year, can new residents feel more encouraged and equipped to weave themselves into our social and civic fabric? This Civic Participation Hackathon seeks to find solutions for the following:
(1) Increase awareness of local, county, and state government
Could include things like: overcoming barriers to participation, tracking contributions
(2) Connect with elected officials, advocacy organizations, and other civic leaders. Broaden your perspective.
This might be things like: Automating outreach, improving town hall meetings and Q&As, connecting with those with differing opinions
(3) Register to vote and learn about the key issues in local elections
Could include things like: decreasing barriers to voting, thinking about voter transportation, exploring a candidate’s voting record
Snacks, beverages and lunch are provided.
Bring your laptops and chargers as this will be an interactive session! You don’t need to be a data expert already. People of all levels and experience are welcome!
