Bitcoin and blockchain are often pitted against each other. Bitcoin skeptics argue that Bitcoin is a hype. They say it is overpriced and that its future is doomed. Yet the value of Bitcoin has been rising exponentially, and some believe that Bitcoin will hit $100,000, or even $1,000,000 within a few years. Bitcoin proponents believe that the future is in digital cash and that blockchain is a hype. On the other hand, blockchain enthusiasts are convinced that Bitcoin is doomed. They say that its high transaction costs make it ineffective currency, and the value add will come from the disruption potential of the underlying technology, blockchain. They say that blockchain is set to disrupt more than 20 industries and to create trillions of dollars in business and consumer value.
