Cosmetic treatment review platform RealSelf last month slashed 13% of its workforce, or about 40 employees, the company confirmed. It now employs 275 people.
“To continue to achieve our growth objectives, we are aligning resources and investments across our new global footprint,” RealSelf CEO Jeff Kizilbash said in a statement shared with GeekWire.
RealSelf operates a Yelp-like marketplace business that helps people learn more about cosmetic procedures including botox, Invisalign, breast augmentation, liposuction and more. Founded in 2006, the Seattle-based company has information, patient reviews and photos, treatment costs and ratings, and thousands of verified doctors on its platform.
RealSelf saw its business impacted early in the pandemic but bounced back later in 2020. The company acquired two international cosmetic resource platforms last year: Your New Self and Tajmeeli.
Kizilbash took over as permanent CEO earlier this month. He stepped into the interim CEO role in September, and he first arrived in June as vice president of corporate development.
Kizilbash, based in Chicago, replaced James Coyle, who was appointed CEO a year ago. Coyle departed for personal reasons and also stepped down from the board of directors.
RealSelf founder and former Tom Seery remains executive chairman.
Kizilbash was previously an executive at Varsity Tutors and Sears, where Coyle also worked.
“Our next chapter of growth is focused on delivering innovative new products and services to our network of global providers/specialists and to our industry brand partners, on continued geographic expansion, and on evolving our platform to better serve our consumers,” Kizilbash said in the statement.
