Two Seattle-area wireless metrics companies are joining forces.

Ookla announced that it has acquired RootMetrics, a Bellevue, Wash.-based company that provides information about the performance of cellular networks.

Founded in 2008, RootMetrics tests the speed and reliability of mobile network operators. It sells data to government agencies, mobile network operators, tower and infrastructure providers, fleet management companies, and more. RootMetrics was acquired by Colorado-based IHS in 2015. It has less than 50 employees.

Ookla is known for its flagship Speedtest app that collects crowdsourced internet connection data. Ookla also owns Downdetector, which provides info on website outages, and earlier this year acquired Solutella, a drive-testing company.

The 15-year-old company employs around 200 people across Seattle, Memphis, Tenn., and Dublin. It is led by CEO and co-founder Doug Suttles. Ziff Davis acquired Ookla in 2014.

“Ookla plus RootMetrics fully enables the network assessment trifecta of crowd measurement, controlled testing and consumer perception — with a sustainable business model that should thrive through the privacy revolution,” Suttles said in a statement.
