—Digital freight startup Convoy announced Sunita Solao, previously an HR leader at Airbnb, as vice president of people and a new member of the company’s executive team.

“Finding the right leader for our People function has been my top focus,” said Convoy CEO Dan Lewis in a statement. “The world is changing and a new normal is emerging for how we do our best work. I look forward to partnering with a creative force like Sunita to take the best of what we know, and build for the future during this unprecedented time.”

Solao was previously head of people and talent for Airbnb’s Homes Business team. She held prior HR leadership roles at eBay, Magento and GE Healthcare.

“I recognized in my first conversation with Dan that the Convoy team was as passionate about shaping a high-performing culture based on values as I am, which was one of the main reasons I jumped at this once in a lifetime opportunity,” Solao said.

Convoy also recently hired former Expedia CEO Mark Okerstrom as president and COO. The five-year old company, one of a handful of privately-held companies in the Seattle region valued at more than $1 billion, now has more than 1,000 employees.

—Enterprise application development and deployment company OutSystems hired three new executives based in the Seattle region, all of whom previously had long tenures at Microsoft. 

Neil Charney, most recently chief marketing officer at Docker, and before that senior vice president of marketing for SAP, joined OutSystems as senior vice president of marketing. He previously spent 17 years at Microsoft, in leadership positions in the company’s Global Strategic Initiatives group, Server and Tools Division, and Platform Strategy Group.

Eileen Fisher, who spent 20 years in partner management and product marketing at Microsoft, joined OutSystems as technical alliance director.

Barry Goffe joined OutSystems as senior director of platform strategy. He previously spent 14 years at Microsoft, culminating as director of the company’s Platform Architecture Team, and was most recently president and CEO of coffee cup lid maker Vaporpath.

OutSystems, founded in Lisbon, Portugal, in 2001, and headquartered in Boston, is in the midst of a significant U.S. expansion. The company competes against Microsoft, Amazon and others in the growing area of low-code application development, and also partners with the same cloud giants for the deployment of apps built by its enterprise customers using the OutSystems development platform.

—Bellevue, Wash.-based Apptio appointed Allison Breeding as the company’s new EVP of marketing. Apptio, which went public in September 2016, makes cost analysis software for IT teams.

Based in North Carolina, Breeding was most recently vice president of global marketing at Anaplan, a platform for planning processes. She previously held executive marketing roles at Docker, GE Digital and Red Hat.

—Former Microsoft Technical Fellow Steve Lucco has joined sales enablement startup Highspot as chief scientist. He will be working on AI and machine learning capabilities for the company’s platform.

Lucco spent more than two decades at Microsoft, most recently as the chief architect for the open source Fluid Framework.

— Kirkland, Wash.-based Ziply Fiber, born from $1.35B deal with Frontier Communications, hired Mike Doherty as chief marketing officer. Prior to Ziply Fiber, Doherty spent 19 years as president of Seattle advertising agency Cole & Weber.

— Global trade platform Intelage appointed Dave Fry as its new head of engineering. The Seattle-area startup also announced a $3.5 million funding round led by Blumberg Capital.

Fry was most recently VP of engineering at Premise Data, a San Francisco, Calif.-based data and analytics company. He was previously a senior software engineer for trucking startup Convoy.

— Cybersecurity startup Rubica named Rich Scott as chief revenue officer. Scott was most recently CRO at identity security company Sontiq and previously vice president of national sales at Vonage Business.

“The Rubica cybersecurity stack solves a very real and relevant challenge in this new world that we live in,” said Scott. “The remote workforce has become the single biggest threat vector for any company regardless of size or industry.”

— Whitepages spinout Ekata hired John Kelly as vice president of global demand generation.

Kelly was previously head of marketing at fullcast.io, a go-to-market planning platform and director of marketing at Egencia, an Expedia Group company. He also held marketing roles at Seattle startups Valant and PayScale.

Based in Seattle, Ekata, previously known as Whitepages Pro, sells enterprise identity verification products.

— Another Whitepages spinout, caller ID startup Hiya, appointed Brian Silverman as senior vice president of connect partnerships. He has been advising the company for about a year.

Silverman was previously head of global revenue for Amazon Connect, AWS’ contact center offering. He was chief revenue officer at Seattle’s Spoken Communications, which was acquired by Avaya in 2018 and co-founded Five9, a cloud contact center platform.

— Toronto-based Thomson Reuters appointed Deanna Oppenheimer to its board of directors. Based in Seattle, Oppenheimer is the founder of advisory firm CameoWorks and currently a senior advisor of Bain & Company. She previously held executive roles at Barclays and Washington Mutual.

— Seattle public relations agency The Fearey Group hired Stephanie Mudgett as a senior consultant. A Boeing veteran, Mudgett is also president and owner of Easton Communications, and vice president of executive communications at WestRiver Group.

— Former 98point6 vice president of sales Brook West is now chief commercial officer for San Francisco, Calif.-based surgical care platform Carrum Health. West was previously VP of sales at healthcare SaaS startup Valant in Seattle and Boston, Mass.-based Fuze, a communications software platform.
