— Remember 2000? Perhaps the biggest commotion in technology was in full swing. As everyone rang in the Millenium, a large part of the general public was scared that most, if not all, of the infrastructure that depended on computer programs would fail. This was due to the fact that many programs referred to the year with two digits rather than four. Therefore, they would stop working correctly when the two digits turned back to 00. In the end, not much happened. The Living Computers Museum + Labs is giving a presentation about the infamous event called Remembering Y2K at the museum in Seattle on Dec. 30.
— On New Year’s Eve, The Pacific Science Center is holding its annual bash called Spectra. This year’s party is themed around the ’20s and will feature drinks and dancing as well as some special science displays including diamond-making, robot-building, and the chance to meet some exotic animals. The party also boasts the best view of the annual fireworks show at the Space Needle.
