Is Amazon going to treat its employees like “Royals” tonight? Well, the tech giant is bringing in New Zealand singer Lorde to perform for its annual post-holiday extravaganza at CenturyLink Field and Event Center in Seattle.
According to the company, they’re expecting close to 40,000 attendees at the 20th annual event — billed as a way for employees to unwind after surviving the busy holiday season.
Tonight’s party will have a “Flashback Friday” theme, with a fun vintage take, such as a silent disco, “The Price is Right” with a charity twist, Rockaraoke, and throwback food items.
The party has definitely grown over the years, after initially being hosted at such venues as the Sheraton Hotel, Westin Hotel, EMP and Museum of Flight. Themes have ranged from “Attack of the Amazonians” to “Sweet Sixteen,” “Under the Big Top,” and “Winter Wonderland.”
In 2005, the attendance was noted as “more than 750” people. By 2017, it had grown to 25,000.
The event moved to CenturyLink in 2012. Amazon has previously tapped such musical acts as DNCE, Fall Out Boy and Imagine Dragons.
The company’s many thousands of Seattle-area employees, plus their plus-ones, will spread out across the Events Center and the 67,000-seat football stadium to play games and take part in a wide range of activities.
