The Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame is adding to its roster with four new inductees from across the spectrum of books, comics, video games and television. The Hall is part of Seattle’s Museum of Pop Culture.
The new inductees, to be featured in the permanent MoPOP exhibition later this year, include “Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling, comic book writer/publisher Stan Lee, adventure video game series “The Legend of Zelda,” and television series “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.”
Here’s a bit more on each inductee:
J.K. Rowling: The British novelist is best known for the “Harry Potter” series about a young boy wizard. The seven-book series was turned into a successful film franchise, with eight films released between 2001 and 2011. Rowling has won numerous awards including the Hugo Award and the National Book Awards Children’s Book of the Year.
Stan Lee: The highly influential comic book writer created numerous Marvel Comics characters including Spider-Man, Black Panther, and the X-Men. His characters and storylines have appeared across all types of media including animated series, video games, television shows, and the long-standing Marvel Cinematic Universe.
‘The Legend of Zelda’: An adventure video game series known for its exploration-based gameplay, mind-bending puzzles, memorable characters, and beautiful fantasy setting. The franchise includes 19 installments and has sold more than 80 million units.
‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’: By combining vampire hunting with teen drama, the show proved to be a quintessential example of turn-of-the-century genre television. Following reluctant hero Buffy Summers, the series used the popular “monster of the week” storytelling style as a framework to tell deeper metaphorical stories about the struggles of daily teen life.
