Mark Mader knows a thing or two about leadership.

Mader joined Smartsheet when it was a 6-person startup. In the past 12 years, he’s helped lead the enterprise software company through a crucial early pivot and eventually to the New York Stock Exchange, where Mader rang the opening bell earlier this year as Smartsheet — now worth more than $2.5 billion — went public.

Mader will share experiences from his own startup journey on Wednesday, Sept. 19 at The Playbook, a new GeekWire event series presented by Lane Powell that dives into the fascinating intersection of entrepreneurship, business, sports and culture. A limited number of tickets are available here.

The idea behind this new speaker series is to bring together startup CEOs, founders and entrepreneurs to hear from leading tech and business innovators, talking about the themes of leadership and the challenges entrepreneurs face in building businesses. Some of the best insights occur when entrepreneurs get an opportunity to trade war stories with other entrepreneurs, and we are hoping we can facilitate these discussions at The Playbook.

Our first Playbook event, which featured Sounders FC owner Adrian Hanauer and his brother, venture capitalist Nick Hanauer, was a big hit, and you can read more about their insights here.

Please join us on Sept. 19 at The Ninety in the Pioneer Square neighborhood from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for The Playbook.

Attendees also will have the opportunity to watch the surging Seattle Sounders FC take on the Philadelphia Union match in a crucial home match immediately after The Playbook. Tickets for the 8 p.m. kick off are sold separately. If you’d like to go to the match, go here to buy Sounders tickets in The Playbook section and enjoy the action with your fellow attendees.
