Seattle’s Skytap signaled earlier this year it was going to be working much more closely with public cloud providers in the near future, and as part of that shift the company announced a restructuring Monday that will cut 25 jobs in marketing and sales.
“These are great people and it’s important to recognize the impact our shift has on their lives,” said Skytap CEO Thor Culverhouse in a statement provided to GeekWire. “However, myself, the Board, and our executive team must pursue our largest opportunities — even if they mean significant changes to our organization — and act decisively to ensure Skytap’s long-term success for our company, and hundreds of Skytap employees.”
Skytap helps companies with legacy applications rebuild those apps for the cloud computing era. It hosts those applications on its own cloud network, but has been expanding efforts to use multiple cloud providers including Amazon Web Services and IBM. The company has raised $109.5 million in funding over the last decade and following the cuts now employs around 200 people, including 100 in Seattle.
