WeWork confirmed plans Thursday to expand its WeLive co-living residential program to Seattle at a 36-story building in the Belltown neighborhood.

The building at 3rd Ave. and Lenora St., developed by Martin Selig Real Estate, will feature 384 apartments and plenty of co-working space, in addition to common areas and retail spaces. It will open in spring of 2020.

GeekWire originally broke news of the plan in May 2016.

“Together, WeWork and the Selig team are creating a building that will provide Seattleites with a place to live, work, and play, and create opportunities for both the We community and the Seattle community to come together and connect,” James Woods, head of WeLive, said in a statement.

WeWork expanded upon its co-working business and launched its WeLive communal living program in New York City last year, saying that the shared living spaces build “upon community, flexibility, and a fundamental belief that we are only as good as the people we surround ourselves with.” WeLive — which touts community spaces, beds, towels, linens, high-speed Wi-Fi and all of the coffee, tea and beer you can drink — also is available in Arlington, Va., just outside of Washington, D.C.

Guests in the furnished apartment spaces can rent for a day, a week, a month or a year. The apartments range in size from studios to four-bedroom units. The residential program’s slogan: “Love your life.”

In New York, a four-bedroom WeLive unit starts at $1,900 per person per month, while private studios start at $3,050. In D.C., a four-bedroom unit starts at $1,200 per person, while private studios start at $1,640. Nightly rates in New York range from $160 a night to upwards of $400.

WeWork doesn’t have details yet on pricing for the Seattle WeLive building.

WeWork says its WeLive membership ranges from “young people moving to a new city, to parents with small children, to commuters who want to cut down on their daily travel time, to retirees and empty nesters, and everything in between.”

WeWork currently operates co-working spaces at four locations in Seattle: The original location in South Lake Union that opened in 2014, as well as newer spaces in the Holyoke Building and Westlake Tower in downtown Seattle, and a Bellevue location at Lincoln Square. It has nearly 2,500 members in the region.

WeWork will also occupy two floors in a five-story office project Selig is planning in Ballard. The New York-based company, which raised a $760 million round last month, now counts more than 130,000 members across 163 locations in 52 cities around the globe.

Co-working companies now take up more than one million square feet of office space in the Seattle region.
