Redbox customers who rely on the company’s ubiquitous red kiosks for renting or purchasing movies and TV shows, will now have the option to enjoy that content via a streaming service that launched Wednesday called Redbox On Demand.

According to Redbox, there is no subscription fee, like Netflix or Hulu. On Demand users pay as they go and have 30 days to start watching a rental and 48 hours to finish. Digital copies which are purchased can be downloaded and watched offline.

“Redbox customers have asked, and today we’re delivering an On Demand option that offers them the best of both the physical and digital worlds,” said Galen Smith, CEO of Redbox, in a statement. “Redbox provides our customers with choice — the value they want and expect from our kiosks, the instant gratification of On Demand rentals and purchases, and the availability of new-release content, all without monthly subscription fees.”

The new service offers many of the same new-release movies available at the kiosks — which average 1 million daily disc rentals — and also expands the library. Pricing for new-release On Demand rentals starts as low as $3.99 for 48-hour VOD rentals.

The new service is available on the Redbox website, the Redbox app for Android and iOS-enabled devices, as well as Apple TV, Chromecast, LG and Samsung Smart TVs, and Roku.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Redbox On Demand launch partners include Warner Bros., Paramount, Lionsgate, Sony, Fox and Universal. Disney movies will not be available for digital rental or purchase because Disney sued Redbox on Dec. 1 for offering digital codes that allow customers to download copies of movies.

Redbox was previously based in Bellevue, Wash., as part of its then-parent company Outerwall, but its corporate headquarters has shifted to Illinois following its purchase last year by private equity firm Apollo Global Management.
