Pioneer Square Labs has brought on longtime technology executive and entrepreneur Jamie Miller as an entrepreneur in residence, GeekWire has learned.

Miller most recently started the content and connected services business at Tesla competitor Faraday Future. He has a long history as a leader and entrepreneur in the tech world, including founding a startup that would go on to be Comcast’s enterprise video platform, thePlatform. He served as an executive at thePlatform for more than nine years, including a year as its CEO.

Miller told GeekWire via email that he is working on two projects at PSL. The first “addresses individualized consumer services for connected vehicles,” Miller said. “It builds both on my experience in the electric vehicle industry and on the time I have spent building and running a tier-one online video platform company.”

The second is more personal and still under wraps, but Miller said: “it comes from my frustration with the process of getting my three daughters into colleges that were both well ranked AND a great fit for them.”

Miller also said he is bullish on Seattle’s potential to become a leader in connected vehicles.

“I believe the future of the connected vehicle (IoV) is tremendous,” he said. “It is still very early days, but Seattle punches way above its weight in terms of talent and business activities: from ride sharing platforms, to companies like Xevo who are completely rethinking passenger transportation experiences. Aside from the Valley, there’s no better place from which to build a car automation or connected vehicle tech company.”

— Video platform provider Panopto announced that it has added Smartlabs CEO Rob Lilleness to its board of directors.

Lilleness acquired Smartlabs, a holding company for a home automation and Internet of Things companies, in May of 2017. He formerly spent ten years as the CEO of Medio Systems, leaving the company after leading it through an acquisition earlier this year.

Panopto offers enterprise video services to Fortune 500 companies and academic organizations and last year raised $42.8 million to fuel new growth.

“The use of video in businesses and universities is only accelerating,” Lilleness said in a press release. “Panopto’s video platform is positioned to do for knowledge sharing what Slack did for team communications and DropBox did for file management. As a new member of the board, I’m excited to help Panopto deliver on that potential.”

Life Science Washington, the trade association for Washington state’s life sciences and biotechnology industries, appointed OtoNexus Medical Technologies CEO Caitlin Cameron as the chair of its board of directors for 2018 and 2019. The organization also announced several additions to its executive committee and board of directors.

Cameron also serves as a member of the nonprofit’s executive committee, which is in charge of major decision-making for the group. She has served as the chair and CEO of OtoNexus for the past five years and formerly served as the CEO of Seattle biotech companies Presage Biosciences and CellNetix Pathology and Laboratories.

Life Science Washington also added four of its board members to its executive committee: Novo Nordisk Research Center VP Jan Beck, CMC Biologics CEO Gustavo Mahler, Nexgenia CEO Ron Myers and Mirabilis Medica Chairman Jens Quistgaard. It also announced the addition of seven new members of its board of directors, including executives from public biotech companies Juno Therapeutics and Seattle Genetics.

“I am delighted to welcome such a talented and deeply respected group of leaders to our board,” Leslie Alexandre, Life Science Washington CEO, said in a press release. “Their willingness to serve demonstrates their commitment to helping build a vibrant life science ecosystem across Washington. They also bring important expertise directly relevant to our new strategic initiatives.”

— Credit card information management company Switch announced that it has added former Nordstrom and Visa executive Kevin Knight to its board of directors.

Knight has a long history of financial leadership, including thirteen years as an EVP and president of the credit division at Nordstrom and more than 20 years as the SVP of retailer finance at GE Capital. He most recently spent two years as the head of consumer debit and credit products at Visa.

Switch launched its service, which helps consumers manage their credit card information, in spring of this year. The startup has raised $2 million to date.

“Switch not only resolves a consumer pain point and impediment to convenient mobile and online commerce, but provides card issuers with significant volume and revenue upside by ensuring that the most updated payment credentials are easily deployed by their customers,” Knight said in a press release. “I am excited to join the Switch team and support their efforts to provide automated consumer solutions for managing new and updated payment card information wherever cardholders shop or make payments online. ”
