Peter Wilson, the former Google and Facebook engineering director who joined mobile marketplace OfferUp last year to lead its engineering team, is no longer with the company, GeekWire has learned.
OfferUp confirmed Wilson’s departure but declined to disclose additional details. Attempts to reach Wilson were unsuccessful.
It is unclear if Wilson has moved on to a new position. His LinkedIn profile indicates that he ended his tenure at OfferUp in June but does not list a current position.
Wilson’s hire last year was a coup for OfferUp, and he has helped the team double its headcount in the last year. Before OfferUp, Wilson did two stints at Google, initially working as a site director for the company’s Kirkland operations from 2005 to 2009, before returning again in 2013 to oversee an expanding campus.
When Wilson left Google for the first time in 2009, he created a mobile startup that was acquired by Facebook before it ever launched. He then spent the next two years as an engineering director for the social network. Wilson’s career also includes five years at Accenture and 10 years at Microsoft.
During his time at OfferUp, the company continued on a rapid growth trajectory and reached some key milestones in its quest to challenge Craigslist in peer-to-peer online selling. OfferUp landed a $119 million funding round in September and later secured another $11 million. These cash infusions pushed the mobile marketplace to a valuation in excess of $1 billion.
Last month, GeekWire reported that OfferUp signed a lease for a new 71,330-square-foot headquarters, more than quadruple the size of its current space. OfferUp needs the new headquarters to accommodate its multiplying workforce, now at more than 200, up from about 100 a year ago, and 45 in 2015.
