Daily deals company Groupon announced Tuesday that it has added a new face to its leadership board: Former Time and Amazon executive Colin Bodell has joined the company as its chief technology officer. Bodell will be based out of the company’s Seattle engineering center and lead global engineering efforts.

Groupon’s Seattle office was first established in 2012 and the company moved into a large new office in spring of last year. According to a Groupon spokesperson, the office now has 250 employees, down from 300 in spring of last year. The spokesperson said that drop was from normal movement and that the company is currently hiring for 60 positions in Seattle.

Bodell comes to Groupon from clothing retailer American Eagle Outfitters, where he was also CTO. He formerly served as CTO and EVP for Time Inc., where he oversaw projects including the company’s migration to the AWS cloud, and formerly spent eight years at Amazon, overseeing its website application platform and later its digital store platform.

At Groupon, Bodell will report directly to another Amazon alum — Groupon CEO Rich Williams — and work alongside yet another Amazon alum at the company’s Seattle office — chief marketing officer and SVP Vinayak Hegde.

Bodell will oversee the company’s technology strategy and implementation.

“Groupon’s rapidly evolving marketplace presents some unique engineering opportunities, and the long-term potential for the platform is impressive,” Bodell said. “The talent across the organization — particularly the commitment to excellence on the product and engineering teams — allow us to build even more amazing experiences for customers and merchants.”

Ann Lee. (Juno Photo)

— Seattle biotech company Juno Therapeutics announced two new additions to its executive board: Biotech veterans Ann Lee and Pat Yang.

Lee will serve as Juno’s EVP of technical operations. She joins the company after spending 12 years at biotech giant Genentech, most recently serving as the SVP for process R&D and the head of global technical development.

At Juno, Lee will be responsible for all steps of manufacturing and product delivery for the company’s cancer immunotherapies, treatments that genetically engineer the body’s immune system to fight cancer. Those treatments are currently being studied in clinical trials and must be approved by the FDA before they reach the market.

“I am thrilled to be joining the Juno team in its quest to develop new breakthrough treatments for patients with cancer,” Lee said in a press release. “I see the opportunities in this role as a great fit for my own experiences, expertise, and love for learning as we pursue innovative technologies and next-generation manufacturing, and focus on successful commercialization and reliable supply of the late stage products.”

Yang had been serving as Juno’s interim EVP of technical operations. As Lee takes over that role, Yang will stay on as an EVP and senior advisor to the company’s CEO, Hans Bishop.

Yang most recently served as the EVP and head of technical operations at Roche, Genentech’s parent company, and previously held senior leadership positions at Genentech and pharmaceutical giant Merck.

— Avanade, a professional services company formed jointly by Microsoft and Accenture, announced that longtime leader Pamela Maynard is taking on a new role leading global strategy for the company’s marketing units.

Maynard will now oversee a broad swath of Avanade’s offerings, including the innovation, incubation and development of new offerings, alongside Avanade’s delivery organization. She first joined the company in 2008, and served as a VP and later the president of Avanade Europe.

Han formerly served as the head of product experience at Seattle-based cloud storage company Qumulo and was previously a senior user experience design lead for Amazon Web Services. She has also held design roles at Microsoft, Zillow, MSNBC and The Seattle Times.
