King County targets the youths with new Snapchat filters.

King County Elections designed and purchased Snapchat filters for ballot boxes around the Seattle area, anticipating the existential question of millennials: If you didn’t Snap it, did it really happen?

A card-carrying millennial myself, I can confirm that I did, in fact, vote this morning and I have the Snapchat to prove it (see above). The jury is still out on whether voting will join the long list of things my generation has killed. I, for one, hope civic engagement can escape the doomed fate of bar soap, marriage, and the McWrap.

This is the first year the elections team is using Snapchat filters, which are running on 20 ballot boxes around King County.

“We’re really excited to experiment with Snapchat this year,” said King County Communications Officer Kafia Hosh. “We hope our filters help add to a sense of community around voting.”

You can drop your ballot off at any drop box until 8 p.m. tonight. If you visit one of the 20 ballot boxes below, you can also take a branded selfie, perfect for shaming your lazy friends into voting.
