The Seattle Seahawks know a thing or two about rallying around inspirational voices — whether it’s head coach Pete Carroll or players ranging from Russell Wilson to Kam Chancellor to Doug Baldwin or Earl Thomas.

On Thursday at practice, Carroll was happy to welcome another leader who inspires as Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella paid a visit.

Caroll shared a photo of himself with Nadella on Twitter and said he was “pumped” for the release next week of the CEO’s new book, “Hit Refresh.”

Nadella returned the favor with a tweet of his own from back at his Microsoft office, showing off a signed football from Carroll that read, “Always compete!” — a popular mantra from the coach who is in his eighth season with the Seahawks.

Last week, Nadella paid tribute to another Microsoft leader as he helped honor former CEO Steve Ballmer during a grand opening event for the Global Innovation Exchange, a joint U.S.-China institute. A new building will be named after Ballmer.

Next month, Nadella will headline the GeekWire Summit in Seattle on Oct. 9-11.

Nadella will be the featured speaker following the release of “Hit Refresh” and will be joined at the event by speakers including Starbucks CEO Kevin Johnson, Instacart CEO Apoorva Mehta, Amazon VP Toni Reid, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center president Dr. Gary Gilliland, Washington state Attorney General Bob Ferguson and many more.
