Job search giant Indeed.com is again expanding in Seattle.

The Austin-based company said its Seattle headcount has increased from about 80 a year ago to 172 today, and it is quickly outgrowing its current location in the Pioneer Square neighborhood. The company said it recently leased a full floor at Russell Investments Center in downtown Seattle totaling 44,631 square feet, a space with room for 215 people.

An Indeed spokeswoman told GeekWire that the company will move into the new space in the fourth quarter of the year. Even with the new lease, Indeed will hang on to its current space in Pioneer Square — approximately 29,400 square feet — as the company continues to grow in Seattle.

Indeed is one of more than 100 out-of-town companies to open engineering centers in the Seattle area. Many of the world’s largest tech companies such as Google, Apple and Facebook have significant presences here.

As a job search company, Indeed knows about the importance of retaining top talent. That was part of what brought Indeed to Seattle five years ago.

One of Indeed’s senior engineers — R.B. Boyer — decided to move to Seattle after his wife got a job in the city. Instead of letting Boyer take his talents elsewhere, the management team at Indeed decided to let him work on his own. Shortly thereafter, the company jumped on another opportunity when a talented engineer, who they had wanted to join Indeed for some time, left his current gig because his wife also got a job in Seattle.

“We rented a little office for the two of them, and they started working there. So, it was kind of this accidental thing,” Indeed president Chris Hyams told GeekWire last year.

Indeed has a taken a slightly different approach to its engineering office growth, centering it around key product initiatives. For example, the company’s Indeed Resume product — launched about five years ago to allow job seekers to upload resumes to the search engine —is completely owned and developed by the Seattle team.

Indeed calls itself the number one job site, with more than 200 million monthly unique visitors and 5,000 global employees. The site is available in 60 countries worldwide and in 28 languages. Indeed is owned by Japan-based Recruit Holdings, which acquired the job site in 2012.
