All the fireworks and sunshine can mean just one thing: it’s finally summer in the Pacific Northwest!

Between hiking in the mountains, floating on nearby lakes and rivers, and enjoying Seattle sans-rain, the Pacific Northwest has tons of summer fun to offer. We’ve gathered up some of our favorite geeky events and series from the GeekWire community calendar to help you make the most of your summer.

Check them out below, and join us for GeekWire Sounders Day coming up on July 19 from 4:30 to 9 p.m. We’ll hang out with some of our favorite geeks at the tailgate party and then hop across the street to watch the Sounders take on D.C. United.

Seattle Outdoor Cinema

What: Get in the spirit of the season with weekly outdoor movie nights as the outdoor cinema celebrates its 25th anniversary. Join them Saturday, July 8, for a special quote-along edition of The Princess Bride on the South Lake Union Discovery Center lawn. Also, catch other geeky films like science fiction classic The Fifth Element and DC comic’s The Dark Knight later in the summer.

The Pacific Science Center

What: The center is always a great place for geeky family fun. This summer, check out their weekly Science in the City lecture series where scientists explain things like how to harvest renewable energy from the ocean. Also check out their upcoming Theory Festival, an after-hours, 21+ exploration of the center complete with tunes from KEXP DJs.

Where: Seattle Center in lower Queen Anne.

Hiking With Geeks

What: Up for a trip to the mountains? Seattle’s Hiking With Geeks chapter has regular geeky hiking trips to get you out and about and explore the Northwest’s natural wonders this summer. Join them every third Thursday of the month for virtual meetups and hiking trips as they happen. It’s a great way to meet thousands of other active geeks and find new adventuring spots close to the city.

Where: Online and on hiking trails near Seattle.

PlaytestNW

What: If you’re looking for more inside fun, check out boardgame group PlaytestNW. They go all over the greater Seattle region to host game nights where you can play test games from local boardgame developers. Catch them July 15 for a full day of family-friendly games at Skyway Library in Seattle.

New Tech Northwest

What: Get your tech on with a staple of the PNW tech community: New Tech Northwest. This group is dedicated to helping innovators find each other and get inspired. They hold monthly meetings in Seattle, Seattle’s Eastside, Tacoma and Portland, Ore. Check out their next Seattle meeting on July 11, all about the internet of things.

When: Monthly meetings in each of the group’s four locations. Check their website for details.
