Amazon this morning is announcing the first home-monitoring and security cameras that will be compatible with the new $230 Echo Show, aiming to build an ecosystem of smart-home technology around the first touch-screen Alexa device in advance of its official release next week.

The company says these smart home cameras will work with the new Echo Show: Nest, August, Amcrest, EZViz, IC Realtime, Vivint, Ring, Logitech Circle 2, Petzi Treat Cam, and Arlo.

Echo Show users will be able to use Alexa to interact with these cameras — saying, for example, “Alexa, show me the front door,” to see a live feed from the camera on the device’s 7-inch touch-screen.

In addition, the company is announcing a Smart Home Skill API that developers will be able to use to integrate other connected cameras with Alexa devices.

Set for release next Wednesday, the Echo Show will give users the ability to watch video briefings, YouTube videos, and see content from apps including weather, lyrics, and to-do lists, using voice commands. It comes with the features of existing Echo devices, and works in conjunction with a variety of smart home devices, for controlling lights, thermostat and other aspects of a home.

Amazon has been expanding Alexa into a variety of devices, most recently its $20 Dash Wand with Alexa, in an effort to extend its lead over Google, Microsoft and others in the smart-home voice assistant market.
