Amazon today added five new devices to its Prime smartphone program.
Nokia will sell the new unlocked Nokia 6 smartphone, its first device on Amazon’s Prime Exclusive Phones program, for $179.99, which is $50 less than retail price.
Alcatel, which already sells devices via the discounted program, added the IDOL 5S for $199.99 ($80 off retail), the A50 for $99.99 (50 off), and the A30 Plus for $79.99 ($50 off).
Finally, Motorola will sell its Moto E4 for $99.99, which is $30 off retail price.
The Moto E4 will begin shipping June 30, while the other four devices will ship July 10.
Last year, Amazon first announced plans to offer unlocked smartphones with personalized offers and ads on the lock screen. The discounts are supported by the lock screen ads.
The phones use a single sign-on based on the Prime member’s existing Amazon account, with quick access to Amazon apps pre-installed on the phone. The phones also offer a selection of personalized daily deals via a new Android widget.
This is another benefit of Amazon’s $99-a-year Prime program. In addition to free two-day shipping on millions of items, the subscription service offers free two-hour Prime Now delivery, the Prime Music streaming service, Prime Video streaming, cloud storage, the ability to borrow e-books through the Kindle Lending Library, discounts at Amazon’s bookstores, and other benefits.
There are now an estimated 80 million Prime members, an increase of about 38 percent over a year ago.
