Porch AppSeattle startup Porch, the home services platform that connects customers with home improvement professionals, today announced that it is teaming up with online home decor retailer Wayfair. The new partnership will let Wayfair customers hire Porch professionals to install or assemble their latest purchases from the e-commerce site.

Porch will likely expand the approach to other retailers with the launch of its Porch Retail Solution, also announced today. The Seattle company has an existing partnership with Lowe’s Home Improvement, one of its investors, to refer customers to professionals via Porch, as well.

By integrating product sales with installation and assembly service setup, retailers are hoping to reduce customer anxiety about ordering larger items online that may require extensive assembly when delivered. Instead of finding a professional with a separate transaction, the integrated approach offers a more complete purchasing experience.

Amazon has a similar integrated experience, offering its Home Services at checkout with larger items that require installation (like TVs or appliances) or assembly (like furniture).

The partnership initially extends to 15 markets across the U.S., including Seattle, Atlanta and Chicago. Customers are visited by local professionals, already vetted by Porch, for the installation and assembly tasks. The rollout is starting today across Wayfair’s brands, including the main Wayfair site, as well as properties like Birch Lane and DwellStudio.
