Trending: Jeff Bezos and other investors raise $200 million for vertical farming startup Plenty

Product Hunt founder Ryan Hoover joins us in the studio to share his favorite apps of the moment.

This week on the GeekWire radio show and podcast: As summer wraps up — and the clouds return to Seattle — we take a break from our normal routine to speak with guests and GeekWire staff about their favorite apps, sites, and web hacks.

GeekWire editor Todd Bishop kicks things off with NaturalReader, a text to speech app that can substitute audiobooks. The app can read most any text out loud, making it a cheaper alternative to services like Amazon’s Audible — as long as you can stand the halting, computerized narrator.

Monica Nickelsburg, host of GeekWire’s Generation App podcast, talks about her love-hate relationship with Waze, the navigation app featured on an early episode of the show.

GeekWire intern David Schwartz in a video made with Triller, an app that creates music videos.

Then, we speak to Product Hunt CEO Ryan Hoover about his favorite apps of the moment. He’s been using Toasty on iOS to send friends goofy pictures, and Parallel on macOS for social music listening.

Hoover also shares tips to modifying Slack, a workplace communication tool that’s a favorite at ProductHunt’s offices. Check out the inspiring HumbleBot, and find more at ProductHunt’s Super Slack Apps page.

We also get a peek into GeekWire’s Generation App podcast, where Monica and guests Jason Preston and Mary Kate Ives guide us through the world of Twitch, the video game streaming service owned by Amazon. Listen to the full episode here.

And we hear about our newest App of the week, Hear My Voice, and revisit Triller, a favorite app of GeekWire intern David Schwartz that lets users create their own music videos.
