WorkMail-thumbnail_v1Amazon is using its cloud prowess to push further into territory once dominated by Microsoft and Google. The company announced that WorkMail, an email and calendar solution for businesses, is now available for anyone to use.

The service from Amazon Web Services works with existing email clients including Microsoft Outlook and native iOS and Android apps. Amazon has been offering the service as a trial for nearly a year, improving migration and interoperability function, beefing up security and adding features.

Amazon touts benefits to security and control over existing competitors like Microsoft Exchange or Google for Work. Businesses can chose where email is hosted for faster services, with servers in Oregon, Northern Virginia and Ireland at launch.

The service costs $4 per email inbox, in the same range as similar offerings from Google and Microsoft. It’s the latest move by Amazon Web Services to offer high-end enterprise services, expanding beyond its core storage and cloud computing products.
