How many times have you fallen for a label, gone with what’s on sale, or listened to your idiot friend when it came to your beer purchase?

According to this piece in Tech in Asia, those days could quickly become a thing of the past. The new app Letsee Beer will tell you if that beer is good or not.

The concept is simple: Use your smartphone to scan the label (unfortunately, no draught now), and it brings up the beer’s stats, plus hashtagged descriptions and other users’ reviews.

“People may enjoy sharing their drinking experiences with others using our service, and we hope to encourage them to love beer even more,” founder and CEO Ahn Sangchul told Tech in Asia.

Sangchul and friends drank and 3D-scanned hundreds of bottles over three months to start the database. Now, they’re hoping that user-generated content and reviews help to fill out the rest.

Eventually, Sangchul hopes that Letsee will let users scan almost any object for a review — and leave their own — expanding from the beer concept.

Be warned, as Tech in Asia writes about the new version of the app: “Letsee confesses that there are still several kinks to work out — the app is a RAM guzzler, the boot time is slow, and they have dumbed down the user experience due to glitches in the tech.” Developers say updates are on the way.
