RealNetworks announced this week that John Cunningham has resigned from the company’s board, effective Sept. 2. The decision to leave “was not due to any disagreement with the company on any matter relating to RealNetworks’ operations, policies or practices,” the company noted.

Cunningham, a Seattle angel investor who runs Clear Fir Partners, joined the board in July 2012. He is currently chairman of Blucora and sits on the boards of Qliance and AudienceScience.

RealNetworks, meanwhile, posted $34 million in revenue and a loss of $0.77 per share in its most recent earnings report. Its stock is down nearly 39 percent in 2015.

Rebecca Lovell has taken a new leadership role at the City of Seattle. Lovell, who was named Startup Liaison in March 2014, is now the Director of Entrepreneurship and Industry within the Office of Economic Development.

Lovell will lead a newly-formed team of industry advocates and economic intelligence advisors to support the growth of the city’s key sectors. She’ll still be working closely the tech sector, specifically to expand career opportunities for under-served communities — particularly young women and people of color.

As a result of Lovell’s new role, the City is accepting applications for a new “Startup Advocate.”

“We’re looking for an empathetic and experienced entrepreneurial coach, a known and respected tech community leader with a great network, a solid public speaker, and someone who is passionate about shared prosperity/social justice,” said Lovell, who was previously the interim executive director of the Northwest Entrepreneur Network before working at the City.

— Seattle-based digital design agency Smashing Ideas recently hired Nick Pollock to be its senior UX designer. Pollack is a 17-year design veteran with experience at places like Wizards of the Coast, Microsoft, and most recently SMART Technologies, where he was the senior UX designer. Pollack was also a member of rock band Alice In Chains and My Sister’s Machine.

“I’ve had the greatest respect for Smashing’s output throughout my career,” said Pollock on joining the 19-year-old firm. “I look forward to being part of a team that continues to create elegant solutions for people’s design needs.”

— Move Inc., a subsidiary of News Corp that runs Zillow rival Realtor.com, announced this week that Anthony Perry is the company’s new VP of Media Sales. Perry will help Move execute its advertising business across digital, mobile, and emerging technologies. Perry came from Yahoo, where he was a strategic account director and is a veteran of Microsoft and Specific Media.

Atossa Genetics, a healthcare company developing products to treat breast health conditions, this week promoted Scott Youmans to be its new Chief Operating Officer.

Youmans was previously Senior VP of Operations for Atossa, a role he had since September 2014. A veteran of the medical device field, Youmans spent 2000 to 2013 with Pathway Medical Technologies, including a 10-year stint as VP of Engineering.

— Associa EMB Management this week named Susan Chavez as its new VP of Operations. Chavez is familiar with the company, having previously worked at Associa EMB for 14 years. In her new role, Chavez will serve the boards, homeowners, and team members with client services, quality controls, and employee relations.
