The new Star Wars film continues to break records and on Sunday it became the fastest movie to reach $1 billion in box office sales after just 12 days in theaters around the globe.
The previous record holder was Universal’s Jurassic World, which reached the $1 billion mark in 13 days earlier this year, although that movie was released in China — Star Wars: The Force Awakens debuts in the country Jan. 9.
Disney said today that The Force Awakens also posted the best Christmas Day box office sales in history with $49.3 million.
During its opening weekend, the film broke other records, banking a whopping $247 million stateside and $528 million worldwide, according to Bloomberg, making it the biggest global opener of all time.
The Force Awakens currently has a 94 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and 91 percent of more than 150,000 audience reviews give the movie 3.5 stars or higher.
