It seems like the Apple Watch just launched yesterday, but in the fast-moving, high-demand world of tech wearables, the company might just be getting started on the next piece of bling.

Apple Insider uncovered a patent Apple has filed for a ring.

That’s right, kids. A ring. To supposedly coordinate with your Apple watch and iPhone.

“A user controls an external electronic device with a finger-ring-mounted touchscreen that includes a computer processor, wireless transceiver, and rechargeable power source,” states the patent.

“The ring is worn on a first finger receives an input from a second finger, selects one of a plurality of touch events associated with the input, and wirelessly transmits a command associated with the touch event to the external electronic device.”

Don’t get too excited, though, as the Verge points out, it’s only a patent for now, and Apple (like all big tech companies) often patents ideas it will never develop. But honestly, a smart ring doesn’t seem that farfetched. Who knows? We may be celebrating 2016 as the Year of the Apple Ring.

Go ahead and start making your Lord of the Rings jokes now.
