Microsoft posted its quarterly earnings today as both the Surface tablet and Xbox console saw increased sales from this time last year.
The Surface 3 starts at $499, while the Surface Pro 3 starts at $799.
Microsoft also saw increases with its Xbox console, as total Xbox Platform revenue increased 10 percent year-over-year — that includes both Xbox One and Xbox 360 sales. The company sold 1.4 million Xbox’s in the quarter, compared to 1.1 million last year. Revenue from Xbox Live transactions increased $205 million or 58 percent, while total revenue from the Xbox division was up 27 percent.
Microsoft has trailed Sony in worldwide console sales since the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 launched in November 2013. Microsoft has priced the Kinect-less Xbox One at $349 since Jan. 16; the PS4 has sold at $399 since launch.
