The Wall Street Journal is reporting this afternoon that Microsoft is in “serious discussions” to acquire Mojang AB, the makers of the popular Minecraft game.

Microsoft would pay more than $2 billion for the company, the WSJ notes. More than 54 million people have bought Minecraft, a relatively basic sandbox game created by Swedish developer Markus Persson that debuted in 2009 and lets people build constructions out of 3D cubes. It is available on PC, Mac, iOS, Android, Xbox, and PlayStation platforms.

The deal would certainly provide a boost to Microsoft’s gaming arm and would be one of the company’s largest acquisitions to date. Microsoft declined to comment on the WSJ report.
