geekwireawards111It’s been a long week, so we’re ready to have a little fun. And today’s category in the GeekWire Awards voting should prove to be one of the more entertaining in the lineup.

It’s a new category for us designed to showcase the amazing lengths that some companies will go to in order to keep staffers well fed and happy. Introducing Perk of the Year, presented by Kibble & Prentice.

KibbleIn this tight labor market, perks go well beyond Nerf Guns and Kegerators (though we’ve seen plenty of those laying around startup offices from Pioneer Square to Fremont). Finalists this year have private chefs on staff or offer amazing travel and vacation packages.

We kicked off voting for the GeekWire Awards earlier this week, and we’ll continue tabulating the votes in the 14 categories over the next two weeks as we release a category each day. The winners will be revealed at the big GeekWire Awards bash on May 9th at the Experience Music Project in Seattle.

So, here’s your chance to vote: What’s your favorite perk of the bunch?

The awards — originally started by Seattle entrepreneur Marcelo Calbucci — are in their 5th year now. Past winners have included Tableau Software, PopCap Games, angel investor Andy Sack, Cheezburger CEO Ben Huh, Zillow Chairman Rich Barton and many others.

We’re expecting a sell-out this year, and since early-bird tickets expire today, make sure to sign up now before prices go up.

Thanks again to our “Perk of the Year” category sponsor: Kibble & Prentice.
