Microsoft was mum about Windows Phone sales during its quarterly report last week, but we could get a clearer picture when its key partner Nokia reports earnings later this week. And some digging by Bloomberg News suggests that the numbers might actually be pretty good.

The news service polled 22 analysts for their projections on sales of Nokia’s Lumia line of Windows Phones, which launched in Europe in November. On average, they estimated 1.3 million units sold globally to mobile operators and retailers (a.k.a. shipped) as of the end of 2011.

One analyst tells Bloomberg that the numbers “look promising,” and the news service says the results may be enough to “help rebuild investor confidence” in Nokia.

The Lumia 710 launched in the U.S. on T-Mobile USA two weeks ago, and the higher-end Lumia 900 will be coming to AT&T, reportedly in March. Microsoft is betting big on the Nokia partnership to reverse its fortunes and regain traction against the iPhone and Android in the mobile market.
