The face-off between Microsoft and Apple begins Oct. 20 at one of Seattle’s high-profile retail corners.

Microsoft plans to open its new retail store that morning at University Village, across the parking lot from the existing Apple Store at the high-end outdoor retail complex.

The company says it will be donating up to $1 million in software grants to local organizations as part of the opening, following its traditional practice, with the ability to vote on the recipients on Facebook.

The opening week will also include a performance by the Black Keys on Oct. 21.
