You’ve probably seen the Hollywood Walk of Fame where celebs such as Adam West, Jennifer Aniston, Kate Winslet and hundreds of others are immortalized with their own sidewalk star. Now, a group of entrepreneurs are getting their own star treatment at Kendall Square in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

In a ceremony today, the Entrepreneur Walk of Fame plans to unveil sidewalk stars for some of the top minds in technology.

Honorees include:

  • Thomas Edison – General Electric
  • Bill Gates – Microsoft
  • Bill Hewlett & David Packard – HP
  • Steve Jobs – Apple
  • Mitch Kapor – Lotus
  • Bob Swanson – Genentech

Business leaders picked the entrepreneurs “based on their innovation, economic impact and legacy, which will serve to inspire others to pursue entrepreneurship,” according to a press release. The plan is add new honorees to the sidewalk each year. (Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, perhaps?)

“The Entrepreneur Walk of Fame was created to celebrate the best of the best,” said Bill Aulet, Managing Director of the MIT Entrepreneurship Center and co-founder and chair of the selection committee. “We want the Walk of Fame to serve as inspiration to future generations representing the men and women who have put themselves on the line, taken the risks and left a trail behind them for someone else to follow suit.”

Xconomy’s Greg Huang has more details on the event, noting that “if we celebrate movie stars and athletes, why not the top innovators and business leaders of all time?”

Agreed.
