The Institute for Systems Biology (ISB) is an internationally renowned non-profit research institute dedicated to the study and application of systems biology. Founded in 2000 in Seattle, Washington, ISB's goal is to unravel the mysteries of cellular networks and identify strategies that will usher in a new era of P4 medicine (predictive, preventive, participatory and personalized medicine).

Scope of Position:

ISB seeks a creative Web Developer Designer who has a can-do attitude and is able to contribute to a collaborative, entrepreneurial, scientific environment. The ideal candidate has the technical skills of a versatile web developer, and the eye and talent of a graphic designer.

The Web Developer Designer will be responsible for working with both the Communications and Information Technology departments to design, build, maintain, and enhance our content management systems, database driven, static websites, and associate database systems. This individual will be involved with the entire development cycle from requirements gathering, development and testing, to long-term support. Expert knowledge of the Drupal CMS is required, as it is the primary CMS in use, but some familiarity with Plone is desirable.

S/he also should have enough graphic design skills to produce print collateral pieces (brochures, posters, programs, annual report, newsletter, etc.) and other projects as needed. Proficiency with the Adobe Creative Suite is a must.

Requirements and Responsibilities:

•Install, maintain, configure and upgrade CMS and other sites.
•Write and customize CMS templates, themes, modules and other components.
•Versatile in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP and SQL.
•Create, maintain and administer MySQL databases and tables.
•Ability to work from the Linux command line and familiarity with Apache.
•Ability to adapt and learn new technologies and languages when needed.
•Troubleshoot and resolve CMS and website support issues in a 24x7 production environment.
•Ability to use Adobe Creative Suite.
•Provide graphic design services.
•Ability to customize HTML emails.
•Provide brand management support.
•Ability to work closely with the director of communications, as well as other staff.
•Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
•Ability to adapt to situations and work on deadline.

QUALIFICATIONS:

BA/BS degree in a relevant discipline with two to three years of appropriate web programming and CMS experience, or equivalent combination of related education and experience. Expert knowledge of including installing, maintaining, configuring, and upgrading both Drupal and the development of custom Drupal modules is required. Strong ability to develop in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, and SQL is required. Strong skills in graphic design and proficiency with the Adobe Creative Suite. Moderate to strong understanding of social media. Moderate level of experience utilizing MySQL, and working in a Linux command line environment is required.
