The Position

Our growing R&D organization seeks a key new member of our leadership team. Coordinating with our core and content development teams, you will lead development of our base application experience, including business intelligence, graphical modeling and data integration as well as our framework for content delivery. Together with the other R&D leaders, you will be responsible for creating the high-performing development team that the Apptio market opportunity demands and deserves.

Job Responsibilities
•Thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative, cross-functional, agile environment
•As part of the R&D leadership team, build a world-class development organization
•Lead BI, visual modeling, data integration and content delivery framework functional areas
•Work with product management to establish the feature roadmap
•Promote and explain your current and future functionality to the rest of the company and to customers, partners and prospects; work directly with them to understand requirements
•Participate in business, product and strategy planning
•Directly manage 15+ developers, including leads; master 2-4 cross-functional Scrum teams
•Collaborate with architectural leadership on overall system design and architecture; assure that the needs of your functional areas are accounted for
•Hire and retain top talent; manage performance proactively; assure that skills necessary to deliver are maintained
•Define procedures, tools and practices to optimize team productivity
•Manage team to maintain quality, including test-ability, and to respond quickly to product issues in the field

Essential Qualifications and Experience
•At least 10 years of experience developing commercial software; at least 4 years experience directly managing developers and leading products or major portions of products; at least 2 years experience managing through leads
•Passion, energy and the desire to work very hard to deliver cool software
•Able to personally design and write quality Java code
•Large scale, data-driven web business applications; at least some SaaS experience
•Rich user interfaces with web 2.0 technology such as BI, graphical manipulation or complex tabular UIs
•Collaborative work style; effective communication; cross-functional teamwork
•Public speaking; customer/prospect-ready inter-personal skills
•Work effectively with senior leadership in all areas
•Experience in and mastery of all functions required to deliver commercial enterprise software

Desired Qualifications and Experience
•Business intelligence, graphical modelling or data integration domain knowledge
•GWT and/or Java Swing
•Agile development processes
•Design of commercial PaaS or internal platform/application architectures and APIs
•Experience with content-management and scriptable applications
•Domain experience with enterprise IT
•Domain experience with financial planning or other similar business applications
