Sr. Software Development Engineer

The Newsvine/nbcnews.com Community Team is looking for an experienced, self-motivated, and passionate top to bottom senior engineer to join us in architecting as well as building products and services. Your primary responsibility will be to design and develop site features and functionality in a multi-tier web environment using Java, SQL Server, PHP and Javascript (JQuery). The ideal candidate is capable at working and leading small teams under tight deadlines with little supervision. A computer science degree or equivalent is a plus, but experience, skill, and attention to detail are equally important.

The ideal candidate will have a strong command of the following knowledge areas:

• MS SQL Server as a backend for production web applications
  
• JavaScript
  
• PHP or similar scripting language
  
• Java servlets, OO programming, and multi-threaded programming in high load environments
  
• Mastery of web standards and cross-browser compatibility
  

Preferable Job Qualifications:

• Successful industry experience using the latest ajax technologies
  
• Experience with, or an interest in, working with JQuery
  
• Familiarity with Subversion
  

We are specifically looking for someone who is passionate about writing code. Java, Javascript, PHP, etc. This is not a design position.
