Description

Do you love to travel? Do online travel agencies frustrate you and how they make is so difficult to search for and book vacations at the best price? The Groupon Global Travel or “Getaways” team is reshaping the way consumers think about buying online travel. Launched in July 2011, Getaways is the suitcase-toting team dedicated to the travel vertical of Groupon’s local discovery tool.
We’re not your typical online travel platform. We work to create packages that delight both suppliers and Groupon subscriber alike. We focus on independent and boutique properties as well as chains and B&Bs and listen to their needs to craft a deal that is going to get them the customers that they want, when they want them. Out with the old ways of features that serve as price comparisons. We’re in the business of featuring the hotels for everything they are—opportunities for our subscribers to make life less boring. Emphasis is on existing business and formation of long-term partnerships as we look to feature properties when they find themselves in a need season.
As part of that effort we have several projects underway to significantly improve and enhance our travel related offering and we are looking for SDE’s at all levels to build out our team in Seattle.
As part of the Groupon Global Travel Team you will be responsible for developing back end travel services that support Groupon’s travel site. Using services oriented architecture you will build a variety of high performance data services in support of the web and mobile applications. These services form part of the overall Getaways infrastructure and as such demand high levels of performance and quality. Your work will be utilized both domestically and by our international development centers.
To qualify for this role we are looking for a person with:
B.S. or higher in Computer Science, Math, Physics or equivalent
3+, 5+, or 10+ years software engineering in C++, C#, or Java (depending on level)
Creative problem solving skills
High energy, a passion for software and ability to work with a close team
The ability to both code and architect excellent code
Online Travel experience is a major plus
Experience with Rest API or other service approach
Experience with Ruby, GitHub and Unix development a plus
Passion for travel is a definite plus
Startup experience is a plus
