The Position

Our growing R&D organization seeks a key new member of our leadership team. You will lead development of our emerging IT financial planning product, coordinating with our platform development team. Your opportunity will include ramping up a new team, working with product management to establish functional priorities, and driving to a new architectural approach and UI experience. This position reports to the Vice President of Application Engineering.

Job Responsibilities
•Thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative, cross-functional, agile environment
•Team with product management to define desired capabilities
•Promote and explain your current and future functionality to the rest of the company and to customers, partners and prospects; work directly with them to understand requirements
•Personally and through your team, design and deliver those capabilities with state-of-the art rich interfaces in Java; deliver with initial quality, design for automated test-ability and write unit tests
•Collaborate with other senior members of the development staff on Apptio-wide system design and architecture; assure that the your product needs are accounted for; step in and help deliver the necessary changes
•Participate in business, product and strategy planning
•Collaborate with other leaders to define procedures, tools and practices to optimize team productivity
•Manage team to maintain quality, including test-ability, and to respond quickly to product issues in the field; personally analyze problems from internal and external customers, debug and provide fixes
•Directly manage 4-5 developers
•Hire and retain top talent; manage performance proactively; assure that skills necessary to deliver are maintained

Essential Qualifications and Experience
•At least 8 years of experience developing commercial software; at least 3 years experience leading products or major portions of products; significant experience developing business applications
•Passion, energy and the desire to work very hard to deliver cool software
•Able to do high-quality architecture and design, especially in the presentation layer, and personally ready, willing and able to write great Java code
•Has worked with large scale, data-driven web business applications; has at least some SaaS experience
•Rich user interfaces with web 2.0 technology such as BI, graphical manipulation or complex tabular UIs
•Collaborative work style; effective communication; cross-functional teamwork
•Interact effectively with company leadership and customers
•A good understanding of all functions (UX, QA …) required to deliver commercial enterprise software
•Working through an Agile, Scrum-like development process
•B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent experience

Desired Qualifications and Experience
•IT business/financial management or general enterprise budgeting domain experience
•GWT and/or Java Swing
•Relational databases, schema design, SQL
•Database implementations (query optimization, index generation, caching …)
•Design of commercial PaaS or internal platform/application architectures and APIs
•Experience with content-management and scriptable applications
