The Position

As a Senior Software Engineer on our business intelligence (BI) platform team, you will design and deliver backend compute and analysis services and systems for BI uses cases utilizing OLAP techniques. You will operate in agile scrum environment to develop the technical requirements, designs, and implementation of winning platform capabilities and product features. This position will participate on the “architecture team” to ensure overall platform scalability and performance stay ahead of customer demand.

Job Responsibilities
•Contribute hands-on into the design and implementation (in java) of Apptio platform capabilities (services and subsystems) and Apptio application features
•Translate business requirements into technical requirements, designs, and tasks
•Educate, evangelize, and assert your technical knowledge of algorithms, data structures, real-time analytics, big data processing, OLAP, and large scale system design into all relevant initiatives in our product plan.
•Use your experience and judgment to research, select and implement (for our SaaS analytics platform) OLAP-style analytic optimizations (such as join algorithms, pre-computed aggregate selection, filtering techniques, etc)
•Join the technical leadership team and participate in the definition, research, and development of the evolving Apptio system architecture
•Meet with customers periodically to gain perspective on core use cases and platform requirements.

Essential Qualifications and Experience
•7+ years experience driving the design and delivery of highly available super-scaled service offerings for consumer or enterprise market segments.
•Expert level knowledge of database scalability solutions, performance optimizations and multi-dimensional data management. OLTP, OLAP, etc.
•Expert level knowledge of software development in Java/C++
•Practical knowledge of modern MapReduce, RDBMS, OLAP, columnar, no SQL, and MPP databases
•Practical experience optimizing real-time transactional and large scale batch processing systems
•Collaborative work style; effective communication; cross-functional teamwork
•Passion, energy and the desire to work very hard to deliver cool software

Desired Qualifications and Experience
•Domain experience with enterprise IT, data analysis, and/or finance/banking domains
•Experience delivering Big Data solutions and/or using benchmarking capabilities
•Engineering work on/in database kernels
•Agile development processes, SaaS business models
