sony a6000

Sony has done a great job creating cameras that sit between point-and-shoots and DSLRs. The Alpha a6000 marries the tech of the groundbreaking (and now defunct) NEX system with the prosumer Alpha series.

The $598 16-50mm Power Zoom Lens and a6000 kit is great for consumers looking for a more portable, yet still high-quality, camera. The high-resolution images turn out better than the competition from Olympus and Panasonic, even in low light. Autofocus is snappy while the design is functional and understated, allowing you to quickly snap candid shots.

One of the other standout features of the a6000 is its electronic view finder. The 1.4-million-dot OLED display is crisp and quick, and works just as well in low light as it does in dark. (Electronic view finders can get noisy in dark environments.)

If you do want to switch to point-and-shoot mode, the back screen tilts 45 degrees down and 90 degrees up. The kit lens provides just the right amount of zoom while not being too heavy to lug around. You can also switch it out for other Sony E and FE lenses.

While it might not be drastic enough to upgrade from later NEX models, this is a great step up from point-and-shoot users looking to get better results. At the lowest price Amazon has ever offered (and close to the lowest from any 3rd-party sellers), now is the time to pull the trigger.
