Residential Internet speeds are finally reaching the 1 gigabit per second mark, but all that speed isn’t much use if your router can’t handle even a fraction of it. By upgrading to an 802.11ac router, you’ll theoretically get up to 1300 Mbps without wires on compatible devices. Even without gigabit service, a faster router can do wonders for speeding up file transfers and maximizing your Internet use.

This package deal from Amazon includes a great Netgear router, plus a high-speed modem to eliminate those annoying rental fees. It’s set up to work with Comcast Xfinity and Time Warner Cable, but works with other ISPs as well. It has 16 channels for download, meaning everyone in the house can stream Netflix without a hiccup.

But the real standout here is the router. The Netgear Nighthawk X6 AC3200 has three bands: one 2.4GHz band for up to 600Mbps speeds and two 5GHz bands capable of 1300Mbps each. Those latter speed leverage the 802.11ac internet standard, while still compatible with 802.11n devices. That’s in addition to the four Ethernet-out ports for wired connections and two USB ports for wireless printing and storage.

You can pick up the router and the modem together for $340 now, a $40 savings compared to buying them separately. You can definitely find cheaper routers, but the modem alone can save you $120 per year if you’re currently paying rental fees, so this is a great package for upgraded Internet speeds at the home or small office.
