Chelsea Clinton has joined the board of Expedia, the Bellevue-based online travel giant.
The announcement was made in a SEC filing today, which noted that Clinton — the daughter of former president Bill Clinton and former U.S. Senator Hillary Clinton — will be “compensated in accordance with the company’s standard compensation policies and practices for the board.”
Expedia CEO Dara Khosrowshahi has been one of the more outspoken critics of U.S. President Donald Trump, noting at the GeekWire Summit last October that the billionaire politician would be bad for the country and the world.
“I think where Trump just has it dead wrong is this is a world of us versus them,” Khosrowshahi said. “We don’t believe in a world of us versus them; we look at the world as all of us together.”
Last year, Expedia chairman Barry Diller dubbed Trump’s presidential run an “evil miracle,” and said he could not believe that “that clown” could be president of the U.S.
Clinton currently serves as Vice Chair of the Clinton Foundation, where she works on global and domestic health initiatives. She previously worked as an associate at McKinsey & Company, and as an associate at Avenue Capital Group.
She also serves on the board of IAC, the Barry Diller holding company that includes Web.-based businesses such as Dictionary.com, About.com and The Daily Beast.
Expedia expanded the size of its board to accommodate Clinton, boosting the size to 14 members. Three of the last four appointments to the Expedia board have been women.
The company declined to comment on the appointment of Clinton to the board.
