Databricks, a San Francisco-based data and artificial intelligence company, is expanding its presence in the Seattle region and growing its engineering team.

The company has a new R&D facility at 2033 6th Ave. in Seattle and a new office in Bellevue, Wash., at 500 108th Ave. NE.

Databricks currently employs 52 people at the locations but is growing rapidly and expects to increase headcount 4x as it recruits and hires for engineering and product roles. Chief Security Officer Fermín Serna is among the notable new hires. He was previously SVP and CIO at Citrix.

Databricks is part of an ever-expanding list of companies looking to seize on the engineering talent in the Seattle region by setting up remote outposts. While longtime tech giants such as Facebook and Google have grown to thousands of employees in the area, others are just getting started. For example, Wayfair, an e-commerce site that competes with Amazon, just announced its plans to open a corporate office in Seattle and hire for more than 200 tech roles.

Founded in 2013, Databricks has 2,500 employees and more than 5,000 customers including Comcast, Condé Nast, H&M, and over 40% of the Fortune 500. The company says it’s on pace to generate $1 billion or more in 2022 revenue, a growth rate of over 75%.

In August, Databricks announced a $1.6 billion Series H funding round. The company has raised $3.8 billion to date and is valued at $38 billion.
