Technology and consulting companies continue to dominate Glassdoor’s list of the highest-paying workplaces in America.
The career site posted its latest annual ranking of the highest-paying U.S. companies as organizations in consulting and technology industries took all but one of the top 25 spots.
The top-paying tech company is VMware, followed by Splunk, Cadence Design Systems, and Google. For Seattle-area companies, Microsoft ranked 19th, while F5 Networks came in 23rd. Amazon did not make the list, but its Amazon Lab126 hardware unit ranked 10th.
The list is calculated on each company’s median total compensation; that data comes from salary reports submitted by users on Glassdoor company pages.
“This report reinforces that high pay continues to be tied to in-demand skills and higher education, which in part, is why we see several companies on this list among the consulting and technology industries,” Dr. Andrew Chamberlain, Glassdoor chief economist, said in a statement. “Salaries are sky-high at consulting companies due to ‘barriers of entry’ in this field, which refers to employers wanting top consultants to have personal contacts, reputations and specialized skills and knowledge. In technology, we continue to see unprecedented salaries as the war for talent is still very active, largely due to the ongoing shortage of highly skilled workers needed.”
You may wonder why healthcare companies did not crack this list given that many of Glassdoor’s highest-paying jobs were in the medical industry. Glassdoor noted how “the data shows us that physicians and pharmacy managers are still among the highest paying jobs in America, but overall, taking into account all job titles at a company, A.T. Kearny and Strategy& continue to be the highest paying companies, on average, just as they were on last year’s report.”
