President Trump didn’t just go dark in his inaugural address on Friday, he went Dark Knight.

In a speech that some would regard as better suited for the dismal streets of Gotham rather than the steps of the U.S. Capitol, Trump laid out his vision for America by borrowing a bit from Bane, the masked madman who took on Batman in 2012’s “The Dark Knight Rises.”

“Today we are not merely transferring power from one administration to another or from one party to another, but we are transferring power from Washington, D.C., and giving it back to you, the people,” Trump said near the beginning of his speech. (You can re-watch or read the transcript over at CNBC.)

Deadspin editor Timothy Burke tweeted a mashup video that used a snippet of that line and bled it into almost the same line from Bane in “Dark Knight.”

“We take Gotham from the corrupt! The rich!” said Bane, played by actor Tom Hardy. “The oppressors of generations who have kept you down with their myths of opportunity and we give it back to you. The people.”

The Bane line follows with people being freed from jail cells and the rich being kicked out of their fancy houses.

President Trump’s day (we hope?) went in a different direction.
