Expedia will offer a 2-to-1 match for employee donations to the American Civil Liberties Union in response to President Donald Trump’s immigration ban.

In an email sent to staff Friday, the Bellevue, Wash.-based online travel company said it will also match volunteer hours or donations made to other organizations supporting immigrants or refugees.

“When we see injustices such as the ban on immigrants to the United States, we feel compelled to act – as you’ve seen throughout this week,” Expedia’s Chief People Officer Nikki Krishnamurphy wrote in the email, which you can read below.

Expedia has been vocal with its criticism of Trump’s ban on immigrants from seven predominantly Muslim countries. Last week, the company joined Amazon in supporting Washington state’s lawsuit against the Trump administration over the ban.

“Expedia believes that the Executive Order jeopardizes its corporate mission and could have a detrimental impact on its business and employees, as well as the broader U.S. and global travel and tourism industry,” the company said in a declaration in support of the lawsuit.

Expedia CEO Dara Khosrowshahi, a native of Iran who immigrated to the U.S. as a kid with his family after the Iranian Revolution, sent an email to employees last week that spoke out against the ban.

Tech companies rely heavily on overseas recruitment of skilled workers, and several have taken a stand against the order. Expedia is the latest company to donate to the ACLU and other organizations in wake of the ban. Google has donated $4 million, while Twitter employees have donated $1.59 million.

All –

There is a quote by Mark Twain we are fond of at Expedia, “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness.”

As a travel company we believe this wholeheartedly!  So when we see injustices such as the ban on immigrants to the United States, we feel compelled to act – as you’ve seen throughout this week.

We know many of you are looking to act as well, so starting today we are enacting a 2:1 matchfor all employee donations (both monetary and volunteer hours) made to the ACLU or any organization that supports immigrants and/or refugees and on the front lines helping those most impacted. For example, if you donate $25, Expedia will match that with an additional $50 (2x your original donation) – turning your total donation into $75 for the organization of your choice. Please note that this special donation is in addition to – and will not count toward – your annual $4,000 US Giving Match and is retroactive to the first of the year.

If you would like to donate, you may do so on the Expedia Matching Gift site here.
