People visiting Muckleshoot Casino that want a break from the slot machines and blackjack table can now try out new virtual reality technology.

Seattle startup VRStudios this month opened a full-motion multiplayer virtual reality system inside Muckleshoot Casino, which is the first casino nationwide to offer wireless streaming VR.

The games, which range from a Western-style shoot-out title called Barking Irons to a shooter called Time Zombies, let one or two people put on a VR headset and use an accompanying weapon as they walk around in an open space. Other casino guests can watch and hear the gameplay via TV screens that live-stream the action. It costs $5 per session and you must be over 21 years of age.

“People of all ages are loving this riveting new experience,” Muckleshoot Casino Entertainment Manager Junior Maldonado said in a statement. “Some customers are so enthralled they’ve played VRstudios’ games more than 15 times in a single night and then returned the next evening for another round of fun.”

This is the first casino installation for VRStudios, which has inked similar deals in the past year with companies like Universal Studios Orlando, Meraas’ Hub Zero in Dubai, Korea’s Simuline, Smartlaunch in Europe, and North America’s Stampede.

VRstudios has developed a wireless, full-motion virtual reality hardware/software solution that allows customers in industries ranging from aerospace to construction to entertainment to utilize a fully-immersive virtual environment. The company’s technology is in use in more than 11 countries.

VRStudios originally launched five years ago as a virtual reality gaming company called VRcade. In July 2014, that LLC was restructured as VRstudios Inc. with a revamped business model that expanded beyond gaming and into additional commercial enterprise simulation opportunities. The company, which raised $3 million in April, kept the VRcade brand and continues to develop the gaming vertical.

VRStudios is one of many new up-and-coming virtual reality startups in the Seattle area. Others include Envelop VR, Pixvana, AxonVRPluto, VREALEndeavor One, Nullspace VR, and many more. That’s in addition to larger companies like Microsoft, Valve, HTC, and Oculus that are developing virtual and augmented reality technologies in the region.
